Floating wheelchair generating interest from Australian aquatic environments
A French-designed floating wheelchair is set to improve mobility and access to aquatic environments.
Suitable for use on beaches, in waterparks and in aquatic centres, the bright floating Mobichair wheelchair attracted a lot of attention at the recent Control and Choice Expo in Canberra.
Bob Parker, Director of ACT-based Floating Beach Wheelchairs said his group came up with the idea of importing the units after marketing matting to provide beach access for wheelchairs.
Parker explained “it's the only one available at the moment which takes a person fully into the water and gives them that feeling of being submerged and floating.”
While new to Australia, the Dubai Municipality introduced 15 Mobichairs at the Emirate’s Al Mamzar and Jumeirah beach, with the aim of providing the full beach experience for those with special needs.
Mobichairs are available in Australia through Canberra-based Floating Beach Wheelchairs.
