Water wheelchairs available at EA Networks Centre

Swimming pools at Ashburton's EA Networks Centre are now more accessible as a result of the recent arrival of two water wheelchairs.

Disabled pool users can use the rustproof PVC wheelchairs to access the facility’s main 25-metre pool and the hydrotherapy pool, both of which have ramps – while the Centre’sleisure pool is also accessible via its sloping beach entrance. Hoist access is available for the spa.

Commenting on the new equipment, EA Networks Centre Manager Steve Prescott stated "I'm thrilled to see the wheelchairs arrive, so that people can use them to get in and out of the pools."

The wheelchairs are available in the changing rooms and beside the pools. Disabled pool users can store their own wheelchairs in the changing rooms or can talk to staff to make other arrangements.

Opened in May 2015, the Centre offer four indoor pools, as well as a relaxing spa and steam room, four indoor courts, two outdoor courts and offers a broad range of aquatic and fitness facilities, including Les Mills and spinning group fitness classes, AshSwim Swim School, Aquacise classes, and a fully equipped fitness centre featuring the latest gym and fitness testing equipment.

In addition to the aquatic and sports facilities, the impressive new complex also features two modern meeting rooms available for hire (including for children’s parties) and retail products for adults and children.

With a Southern Alp backdrop, the impressive new 8,000 metre² building is located in the heart of the South Island in Ashburton - just a one hour’s drive from neighbouring Christchurch and Timaru.

100% owned and operated by Ashburton District Council, the Centre represents an ideal venue for organisations based in all parts of Canterbury who are looking to hold events in the middle of the South Island such as sports championships and awards.
