Thredbo Resort spotlights its impressive array of family offerings this winter

Ahead of the school holiday period, Thredbo Resort has spotlighted its impressive array of family offerings this winter.

As a popular winter destination for families, Thredbo boasts the Southern Hemisphere’s first Alpine Coaster, some of Australia’s best skiing and snowboarding for all ages and abilities,  Australia’s only alpine gondola, one of the country’s best snowsports schools and the country’s biggest winter line-up of family-friendly events and entertainment.

Thredbo General Manager Stuart Diver said that he is excited for families to enjoy even more of Thredbo's world-class winter experiences these school holidays.

Diver shared "I love watching families make once-in-a-lifetime memories together here in winter. Whether it's riding our brand-new Alpine Coaster, seeing your kids ski down Friday Flat for the first time or experiencing magical moments like our family flare run and fireworks, we work hard to ensure our school holiday offering is really special.”

The Southern Hemisphere's first Alpine Coaster launched in Thredbo this winter, offering families an exciting new way to experience the mountain. Passengers can control their speed of up to 40 kilometres per hour as they ride along a 1.5-kilometre track through a tunnel, bridges and circles. Children can ride the Alpine Coaster on their own if they are aged eight years or older and over 135 cm tall. Children aged three to eight can ride with a responsible person over 15 years.

Thredbo’s hugely popular Kids Snow Festival is taking over the resort these school holidays from 4th – 21st July with a huge lineup of family-friendly events and free activities including kids-only movie nights, Lindt Chocolate s’mores making, family fun nights, kids flare runs and fireworks and more.

This year's July Kids Snow Festival will also feature multiple new events and experiences including Kids Astronomy Sessions, a free Live Alpine Kids Concert featuring a performance by The Beanies on 11th July and a new Youth Development Backcountry Tour presented by The North Face on 6th July.

On 13th July, Thredbo's hugely popular Project Shred skiing and snowboarding event will return to the kid-friendly terrain park. Aimed at supporting the next generation, kids can spend the day learning from some of Australia's best Olympic athletes including Thredbo ambassadors Valentino Guseli and Tess Coady.

Thanks to recent snowfall and freezing temperatures ideal for snowmaking, Thredbo's skiing and snowboarding conditions are consistently improving. More terrain and lifts have been opening each week including the popular top-to-bottom High Noon trail which opened on Saturday. Experts are forecasting more snow and subzero temperatures across the next two weeks leading into school holidays.

Thredbo was voted Best Australian Ski Resort for Families at the Out & About with Kids annual Readers’ Choice Awards for six consecutive years, Australia’s Best Ski Resort at the World Ski Awards for seven years in a row and Best Australian Family Ski Resort at the 2024 Ski and Snowboard with Kids Awards.
