Thredbo Resort opens for skiing and snowboarding

Following multiple nights of snowmaking and a storm that brought a layer of fresh snow all the way down to the village, Thredbo Resort in NSW’s alpine region has today (Tuesday 20th June) officially opened for skiing and snowboarding today.

Skiers and snowboarders enjoyed light and dry snow conditions on Thredbo’s slopes for their first laps of the season today following 15cm of fresh snowfall over the last 24 hours and multiple strong nights of snowmaking.

Last night, there were 189 snowmaking guns firing across the mountain from 4pm yesterday afternoon to 9am this morning.

The Gunbarrel Chairlift, Merritts Gondola and Cruiser Chairlift were all spinning today, providing skiing and snowboarding access to Walkabout and Ballroom in the Cruiser area.

With forecasters expecting over 40cm of snow by the end of the week, snow quality is expected to remain high with more snowmaking nights ahead thanks to consistent subzero temperatures.

Expecting to open more terrain by the end of the week, a statement from Thredbo Resort management advised “looking forward, Thredbo is gearing up for a massive July school holiday period. During school holidays, Thredbo's Kids Snow Festivals take over the resort, offering families a mountain of terrain to explore, a huge line up of free activities and plenty of après for mum and dad.

“The Kids Snow Festivals are a favourite with kids of all ages, offering a non-stop line-up of activities on and off the mountain including kids-only movie nights, special kids flare run and fireworks.”
