The Y Victoria announces Dr Lindsay McMillan as new Chair of the Board
The Y Victoria has welcomed their new Chair of the Board, Dr Lindsay McMillan OAM, who joins the Y at an important and exciting time of COVID-recovery, innovation and expansion.
Dr McMillan, an Order of Australia medallist and Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors officially took his seat as Chair at the Y Victoria’s Board of Directors April meeting.
Dr McMillan brings to the Y an extensive range of board, governance and commercial experience, including currently chairing the boards of the International Justice Mission, Irabina Autism Services, as the chief executive of MS Victoria and as a member of the National Disability Advisory Council for three years. He is currently the Managing Director of Reventure Limited.
Dr McMillan was awarded his OAM in 2012 for service to Australians with a disability through a range of health service organisations and employee assistance programs. His commitment to people with disability and young Australians is just one of the many reasons the Y is excited to have him join their organisation.
Notwithstanding his impressive resume, Dr McMillan’s demonstrated passion, leadership, and genuine care for the community is what set him apart in the extensive recruitment and shortlisting process for the position.
“I am someone who grew up with the Y, and for me to now be taking on the role of Chair is a great privilege,” said Dr McMillan.
“In the short time I have been here, I am greatly impressed with the quality, warmth of engagement and enthusiasm that pervades all aspects of the Y. We are now moving into a new era and I am looking forward to meeting more of the Y’s community in my travels.”
With an understanding of the importance and role that not-for-profit and social enterprise organisations like the Y bring to society, Dr McMillan has a keen interest in crafting ways to create impact in communities even with reduced resources.
He has been published in a number of business, human resources and health related journals and for the Y, his expertise in financial, audit and risk management will be a great asset.
After a tough year in 2020, the Y has entered 2021 with determination to not only recover, but to thrive, and with Dr McMillan at the helm, the Y look forward to what the future brings for the organisation.
Y Victoria Chief Executive, Carolyn Morris notes the whole executive leadership team are thrilled to have Dr McMillan on board.
“I look forward to working alongside Lindsay, his guidance and counsel are sure to make a great mark on the Y, and in turn I know Lindsay will be motivated and inspired by our people and programs.”
The Y would like to thank Peter Jordan, the outgoing Chair of the Board for his service and leadership, and Olly Tripodi for Acting Chair of Board since the end of last year. Tripodi returned to his role as Deputy Chair in April.
