The Y Northern Territory appointed to manage City of Darwin aquatic facilities
The City of Darwin has announced that The Y Northern Territory will continue to manage its three community pools, including the soon-to-open Casuarina Aquatic and Leisure Centre.
City of Darwin Chief Executive Simone Saunders said she was thrilled to appoint The Y to manage the Parap Pool, Nightcliff Pool and the soon-to-open Casuarina Aquatic and Leisure Centre, commenting "the Y has been managing our pools for the last six years, offering a range of recreational and leisure options for the community and swimmers of all abilities.
“We are very proud of our pools in Parap and Nightcliff which offer friendly, safe environments to enjoy a range of water-based activities, as well as a variety of programs for all ages.
“I am confident The Y will bring the same high-quality management skills and expertise to the Casuarina Aquatic and Leisure Centre when it opens soon."
The Parap Pool is compliant to requirements of World Aquatics, the world governing body for aquatic sports, putting Darwin on the national map for swimming competitions, training and events.
Located on the Nightcliff Foreshore, the Nightcliff Pool offers a range of programs and activities, including learn-to-swim and swim club training.
Set to reopen in during the winter months, the redeveloped Casuarina Aquatic and Leisure Centre is a flagship infrastructure project for the city with key features to include three new pools.
Welcoming the contract extension, The Y NT advised "The Y Northern Territory are excited to continue our partnership with the City of Darwin to manage the community pools and to continue supporting Territorians to lead active and healthy lives.
“The Parap Swimming Pool, Nightcliff Swimming Pool and Casuarina Aquatic and Leisure Centre are vital community assets that provide people of all ages and backgrounds opportunities to be healthy, active and connected to their community.
“City of Darwin’s investment and vision for the Casuarina Aquatic and Leisure Centre redevelopment is hugely exciting for Darwin locals and tourists alike and we look forward to operating a modern, family-friendly and inclusive facility for everyone in the community to enjoy.”
