Darwin waterpark reopens following $3 million upgrade

A $3 million upgrade to the Leanyer Recreation Park in Darwin sees the aquatic play attraction now feature a new big bucket, a spray tunnel, water weaver, team blaster and spiral tunnel.

Importantly, the upgrade includes new accessibility options, ensuring Territorians of all abilities can join the fun.

The Northern Territory Government has delivered the improved facilities in the lead-up to what could be a sweltering festive season.

In addition to the new equipment, concrete footings have been replaced while an overhaul of the park’s plumbing and electrical infrastructure was also undertaken.

The upgrade for the wet play area was performed in stages so the park could remain open during the works.

Entry to the Leanyer Recreation Park remains free, providing all Territorians the opportunity to enjoy a cool drenching as the holiday season fast approaches.

NT Minister for Sport, Kate Worden notes “the water feature at Leayner Recreation Park is such a loved facility for Territorians both young and young at heart.

“Next year, it’s expected that more than 150,000 people will spend time enjoying the new water park and they’ll be able to do so with water-bucket loads of fun!”

Stephanie Cockfield, local mum added “I’ve been taking both my boys Xavier, 9, and Harrison, 7, there since they were tiny, they both celebrated their birthdays at the park last year, and we have our sporting break-ups there.

“They are both pretty excited to be among the first Territorians dunked by the new bucket.

“It is almost impossible to live in the northern suburbs without the park being such a focal point of the community.”
