New play attraction to spiral above Gold Coast’s Broadwater Parklands

As part of a $5 million upgrade to replace existing play equipment in the northern precinct of the Broadwater Parklands, a new play attraction will feature a four-level spiral tower to become the centrepiece of the parkland’s fourth stage.

Spanning 6000 square metres, the upgrade will create a new foreshore destination for families.

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said the long-awaited play attraction would become a must-do experience for visitors and locals alike and noted “as our city grows, the desire for more open spaces also grows.

“Our 2200 parks are a massive hit with our community, and I have no doubt thousands of visitors will flock to this new playground each week to check it out.”

Taking inspiration from the Broadwater, visitors of all ages will be able to learn about bird and sea life as they interact with features and embellishments such as oversized mud crabs, sculptural birds, murals and discovery trails.

The new play attraction will feature:

  • Spiral tower over four levels with interactive play equipment such as a glockenspiel, binoculars, telescopes, suspended nets, rope tunnels and an enclosed slide

  • Water and sand play area with carved sandstone, bronze sea animals, water pumps, mini weirs and water gates

  • Elevated sand table designed as a 'fish and chip shop' that can accommodate all abilities

  • Play equipment including play panels, swings, slides, trampolines, diggers, steppingstones, a carousel, climbing walls, and climbing nets

  • Shade sails over the play equipment

  • Shelters with seating and barbecue facilities

  • Subtropical landscaping and extensive lawn areas for social gatherings and picnics

  • Additional car parking and lighting

Works on the new attraction have begun and is expected to open to the public late next year.
