The Need for a Perfect Wave
Wave rides offer a long-term solution to revitalising ageing municipal pools and making them more relevant to today's youth, according to Swimplex Aquatics Director Geoff Leaver.
Writing in the just published July/August 2009 issue of Australasian Leisure Management, Leaver charts the development of wave pools over the last two decades before explaining Swimplex Aquatics' role in the FlowRider® wave ride development at Kalgoorlie's Goldfields Oasis facility.
Kalgoorlie's FlowRider®, which opened late last year, is Australia's first standing wave ride on a public swimming pool site.
Leaver writes in the feature 'Creating the Perfect Wave', that wave rides can bring "surfing to any local pool, drawing teenagers back to pool facilities to interact via healthy and competitive activity."
As he recounts, Leaver first came across artificial surfing waves at a World Waterparks Association Convention in the USA in the 1990s and since that time has been advocating their introduction to Australia.
Australasian Leisure Management understands that Leaver is currently developing a new artificial surfing wave innovation.
