Perth's Optus Stadium to host historic day-night Test

Perth’s Optus Stadium is to host an historic day-night Test match as well as its first Twenty 20 International in nearly a decade during the upcoming summer.

Western Australian cricket fans will get to experience the spectacle of a night Test when the venue hosts Australia in an historic fixture against trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand on 12th December.

Western Australian Tourism Minister Paul Papalia and Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray welcomed Cricket Australia's international summer schedule announcement today which will bring some major clashes to Perth.

As a part of the fixtures Perth will also host its first Twenty 20 International in nearly a decade, with world number one ranked Pakistan taking on Australia on 8th November.

The fixture announcements follow Tourism Western Australia having successfully bid to host the International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 World Cup in 2020.

11 men's and women's matches will be played in Perth next year, which is expected to attract a huge number of visitors - creating jobs and boosting the economy.

Commenting on the fixtures Minister Papalia stated “cricket is a much-loved sport around the world, with some of the major summer fixtures to be broadcast in a number of Tourism WA's key tourism markets including New Zealand, the United Kingdom and India.

"To secure a night Test match is a major coup - it is unique and exciting, creating a fantastic atmosphere for spectators and attracting and engaging a global audience.”
