Sydney Swans partners with Australian Graduate School of Management to offer short course

The AFL’s Sydney Swans are joining forces with the Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM) at the University of NSW Business School to deliver a short course in Leading for High Performance.

Drawing on their expertise in building leadership capabilities and shaping culture, the first intake for the unique education opportunity will be delivered at Sydney Swans HQ over two days in October, with further intakes planned for November and in 2025.

Advising that Leading for High Performance collaboration brings together insights and practical examples from two leading organisations in their respective fields, Tracey Flynn, Director of AGSM Executive Education and Short Courses, explains “one of the program's most exciting aspects is its dynamic blend of sports leadership principles with corporate high-performance strategies. Participants will have a rare chance to glean insights from elite athletes and coaches skilled at achieving peak performance under pressure.”

Facilitated by AGSM Fellow and Adjunct Associate Professor Denise Weinreis and Sydney Swans Chief Operating Officer Drew Arthurson, the course will arm participants with a toolkit to enhance their people management skills and shape a culture of high performance within their business or team.

Weinreis specialises in coaching executives and teams to empower and motivate others through energy and leadership, while Arthurson uses the fundamentals of the Sydney Swans high-performance philosophy and practices to teach leaders how to maximise team performance.

Weinreis notes “every activity in the Leading for High Performance program will be ‘real play’.

“It’s a lived experience that will help participants explore performance at three levels: within themselves, their teams, and their organisation.”

Explaining that the program is designed for high performing people and teams from all walks of life, and participants don’t need to be into sport to benefit from it, Arthurson adds “what excites me most about this program is the impact we can have on individual people, with tangible ideas that can help galvanise their performance and get them ready to do their life’s best work.”

The Sydney Swans and AGSM’s Leading for High Performance Course will run on 16th and 17th October at Sydney Swans HQ in Moore Park.
