Summit Fitness announces national expansion and first General Manager appointment as it reaches 10
Summit Fitness Equipment has marked a massive few months in which it has celebrated its 10th birthday, acquired Core Health and Fitness brands, undertaken a national expansion which has seen it create an irrefutable presence in every state and appoint its first General Manager
The leading commercial fitness equipment provider was founded by current Chief Executive Adam Lewit in 2006 to target the consumer fitness market. Using the same principles he then tackled the commercial market in 2009 and discovered the winning difference that has made Summit Fitness Equipment the successful business it is today.
Looking back, Lewit explains “Summit Fitness started 10 years ago originally in the consumer market.
“When selling to a consumer you have to focus on finding solutions to their needs, not just selling product.
“With the massive growth in the commercial fitness industry in 2009 our focus changed from consumer product to commercial product, but we kept the same approach with a core focus on solutions, which served us and our clients very well.”
With the distribution contracts already in place for brands Star Trac, SportsArt, Jacobs Ladder, Woodway and Fit3D, the recent acquisition for distribution of all Core Health and Fitness brands: Star Trac, Nautilus, Stairmaster and Schwinn mean Summit now has the distribution rights for 11 of the world’s best global fitness brands, allowing Summit to provide gym and facility owners everything they could dream of in their fit out without the need to deal with multiple suppliers.
Newly appointed General Manager Melanie Harding adds “Summit Fitness Equipment will be the go to solution provider clients look to when they want a great commercial fit out that includes those specialist performance and functional training products that give their facility that point of difference.
“But they also want one provider to bring them all together into one complete solution who has the expertise to keep them abreast of the latest and most innovative fitness trends and the after sales service to back it up.”
The exclusive distribution rights to Core Health and Fitness products has been a big win for the Summit Fitness team with them now being the distributors for the Nautilus, StairMaster and Schwinn brands while retaining Star Trac - who were recently purchased by Core Health and Fitness.
In addition to taking on new brands Summit Fitness has also had the privilege in providing fitness solutions to Fitness First, Anytime Fitness, Plus Fitness, GWS Giants and more recently the University of Western Australia - a top global 100 ranked university.
Summit’s recent success saw the business expand into a national presence and along with the appointment of the first GM; they also appointed a National Service Manager.
Harding started with Summit as a business consultant to help plan anticipated growth and now, almost a year later, has been appointed to the new General Manager position.
Citing the national expansion and the operational infrastructure that has been put in place as a highlight of her time with the business, Harding explains “bringing the team together to redefine our operational infrastructure in preparation for our targeted growth.
“Gaining new world class brands Wattbike, Schwinn, Octane, Torque, Nautilus and Stairmaster into our portfolio, making Summit Fitness Equipment facilities the most sought after fitness installations because we provide our clients the most holistic solutions from the world's most innovative fitness manufacturers are all highlights for me.
“The result of the last two years of hard of hard work for the whole team is that we have positioned Summit as the Australian leader in the supply of performance products. World class athletes and training facilities come to us for solutions and facility owners want our solutions as we know what the latest and most innovative global industry trends are.”
For Chief Executive Lewit the highlight in Summit’s impressive ten-year history is watching the gyms and facilities he services grow alongside his own business.
He adds “I still remember installing equipment into Plus Fitness Northmead with the founding CEO John Fuller - John was on the forklift and I was upstairs unloading and installing the equipment.
“165 clubs later, this challenge has rapidly accelerated the growth of our business and our ability to setup a national infrastructure to support this. 10 Years ago Summit Fitness was just Adam Lewit.
“Today we have national sales, service and head office infrastructure to support the brands we carry.”
The Australian owned and operated business has cemented their place as a leader in the commercial fitness sector and now they plan to build on that.
As Lewit concludes “moving forward we are extremely happy with the brands we have, it is now about growing exposure in the Australian market and ensuring we support our clients through this growth.”
