2011 Brisbane Ekka to offer fresh fruit showbag
In an Australian first, Brisbane's Ekka (the Royal Queensland Show) will offer a fresh fruit showbag in move away from the traditional show tucker of dagwood dogs, chips and fairy floss.
The Food Connect Fresh Food showbag will contain Queensland-grown apples, bananas and mandarins and will sell for $5.
It is just one of a range of new food offerings introduced to meet consumer demand at the Ekka. It reflects a growing awareness of obesity in all leisure and entertainment venues, RNA Chief Executive Jonathan Tunny explaining that extensive market research had revealed visitors to the show wanted "food that's healthy and fresh and that fits in with our ethos of promoting the best, promoting great Queensland and Australian produce."
Investment in new rides at YoGo Alley, means the Ekka's carnival will offer new and traditional rides, with both the Hangover and the Mixer being new to the show.
Most rides at Ekka are between $4 to $7, however, they can range from a gold coin donation to $12.
The EKKA starts tomorrow and runs until 14th August at Brisbane's RNA Showgrounds.
