Stage is set for Goulburn Performing Arts Centre opening
The curtain will raise for the first time this evening at the Goulburn Performing Arts Centre, with the facility to be officially opened this weekend.
Goulburn Performing Arts Centre is an adaptive reuse of Goulburn’s historic town hall; housing a funky café and Box Office, with the Council Chambers converted into ‘the Meeting Place’ – a wine bar and boutique performance space. A glass atrium connects to the 400 seat state of the art proscenium arch auditorium, which includes wheelchair seating and hearing loop.
There is a fly tower, counterweight fly system, lighting bridges, opera pit and a 15k lumen projector, with four dressing rooms, band room, green room, workshops and loading dock.
The project began six years ago, with a community vision and the beginning of planning, before construction commenced in December 2019. The $18.95 million project has taken just over two years to reach completion.
Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), and Her Excellency Linda Hurley, Mayor Peter Walker, the Hon Wendy Tuckerman, Minister for Local Government and Member for Goulburn and the Hon Angus Taylor, Minister for Industry, Energy and Emissions Reduction & Member for Hume are among guests who will see a VIP preview show on Friday evening.
On Saturday the doors will open to 400 community members who will witness the performance REeNTRANCE which Goulburn Mulwaree Council notes is “created by our creative community that is a celebration of cherished memories, combined moments and the continuation of building momentum into the future, brought together by our various community groups and individuals.”
Goulburn Performing Arts Centre has received significant grant funding for which Goulburn Mulwaree Council would like to thank the Federal and NSW Governments:
$4.5 million from NSW Government Department of Premier and Cabinet, Create NSW Regional Cultural Fund.
$1 million from Australian Government Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development
