Sports Environment Alliance welcomes two new non-executive Directors to its Board

The Sports Environment Alliance (SEA) has today announced the appointment of two non-executive directors, Melanie Robertson and Kieran Power, following an extensive national search.

Robertson joins the board with expansive corporate leadership experience in not-for-profit membership-based organisations, government and for-profit organisations in the health and renewable energy sectors.

She is the Chief Executive of Forest Stewardship Council Aust/NZ and has held non-executive director roles with Environs Australia, Central Victorian Greenhouse Alliance and Motorcycling Victoria amongst others.

As a project engineer and asset manager for West Wind Energy and Acciona (a global leader in renewable energy such as wind farms), and with experience in governance and risk management through various board roles, Robertson’s skills will both complement and add to those of SEA’s directors as the Board continues to lead, educate and empower the broad sport ecosystem.

Power is an environmental and social scientist with deep experience convening cross-sectoral stakeholders around climate action and sustainability. He joins the SEA board with 15 years of experience leading sustainability teams in Australia, Europe and the Middle East with consultancies Deloitte, WSP and AECOM.

Power works for purpose-led sustainability advisory firm Nation Partners, where he supports governments, businesses and not-for-profits to build their climate change responses, engage with sustainability accreditation schemes, and contribute to nature repair and regeneration.

Power is a non-executive director of the Landscape Foundation of Australia, ICDA Certified Community Director, and holds an in MSc in Social Business and Entrepreneurship from the London School of Economics and Political Sciences.

His deep understanding and commitment to sustainability will be instrumental in supporting SEA’s vision and objectives.

Advising that the pair bring a wealth of experience and expertise further strengthening SEA’s Board, SEA Chair, Margot Foster stated “we’re delighted to have Melanie and Kieran join our Board.

“Their broad experience and unique perspectives will be invaluable as we navigate the myriad opportunities and challenges ahead. The appointment process was highly competitive, with a number of well-credentialled applicants.

“We are looking forward to Melanie and Kieran bringing their skills and enthusiasm to SEA as we continue to endeavour to influence behaviour change, for the benefit of the community, and the planet, in the many parts of Australia’s sports system.”

Foster acknowledged the Nominations Committee for its work in managing the selection process. To the unsuccessful candidates, adding “we thank you for your willingness to put yourself forward for a directorship and are buoyed by your interest in SEA’s work and purpose. We very much look forward to your continued support”.
