Water Polo Australia and Australian Marine Conservation Society agree innovative partnership

Aiming to drive change towards a more sustainable future, Water Polo Australia and the Australian Marine Conservation Society have announced a new partnership.

The collaboration between the two organisations will focus on sustainability along with the protection of marine wildlife, including sharks and stingers.

As Australia’s leading national charity dedicated solely to protecting the nation’s oceans and marine wildlife, the aims of the Australian Marine Conservation Society (AMCS) ally with Water Polo Australia (WPA) whose Climate Action Strategy considers the sustainability of Australia’s waters to be crucial to not just the longevity of the sport but to the Australian way of life.

Commenting on the partnership, WPA Chief Executive, Tim Welsford stated “Water Polo Australia is absolutely thrilled to be working with the Australian Marine Conservation Society.

“WPA recognises that our sport is not exempt from the impacts of climate change and that our sport’s impact on the climate is not insignificant.

“We have a responsibility to ensure our sport operates within and protects the environment we play in, and we are excited to begin a collaborative partnership that promotes the long-term wellbeing of our waterways and the marine wildlife that inhabit them.”

Excited to see the partnership develop, AMCS Chief Executive, Darren Kindleysides added “the partnership between Water Polo Australia and the Australian Marine Conservation Society signifies a shared commitment to the preservation of our oceans and precious marine life.

“We are excited about working together to raise awareness, promote sustainable practices and empower communities to become stewards of our marine environments, while simultaneously cheering on Australia’s wonderful water polo representatives.

“It’s a wonderful chance for AMCS and WPA to dive into new opportunities, where athleticism meets advocacy and our collective efforts make waves for a healthier planet.”
