Spinifex Spree Carnival brings Archie Roach and dinosaur park to Port Hedland
Local artists, renowned singer Archie Roach, dinosaurs, fireworks, market stalls and fairground rides are on the line up at this year’s 2015 Spinifex Spree Carnival.
Set to hosts its annual Carnival on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th July at the Port Hedland Turf Club, Town of Port Hedland Mayor Kelly Howlett encouraged the whole community to attend one of the largest social and community events on the Town’s calendar next weekend.
Mayor Howlett stated “Spinifex Spree is one of our longest running events and provides a regional ‘royal-show’ experience for residents and local people.
“The events team have again put together a very exciting line up of performers and entertainers for the 2015 Spinifex Spree.
“The two day event will be hosted by MC Famous Sharon, Eloy Cardenas will perform his unique Caribbean sounds and mix of calypso, reggae and traditional island rhythms and highly acclaimed Australian singer Archie Roach will entertain the crowds with his undeniably universally appealing voice that has seen him span a career on local, national and international stages.
"Special guest Canadian astronomer Professor Ray Jayawardhana who is currently working as part of a contingent in the Marble Bar area, will also present on the main stage on Saturday evening.
“The carnival will be complimented by a vast variety of market stalls with a diverse range of stallholders confirming their spot to offer their wares to the Port Hedland community.
“Almost 80 market stalls will greet carnival goers made up of everything from locally made jewellery, candles and stationary, food and beverage merchants, local community groups and hobby enthusiasts.
“Another very exciting highlight for our younger community members will be Tyrannosaurus Park, creating a dinosaur park complete with a dinosaur comedy show starring Dezzy the Dinosaur.
“The attraction presents an educational show full of interesting facts about dinosaurs and a dinosaur discovery trail giving children the opportunity to view the dinosaurs up close, hear them roar and stomp about and see what a dinosaur nest looks like.
“The event will finish on Saturday evening with a fireworks extravaganza that will surely thrill the crowds.
"Pet owners are also reminded to take extra precaution on Saturday evening with fireworks scheduled for 8pm and to be aware that loud bangs, shouts and flashing lights can be terrifying for our beloved pets.”
Spinifex Spree runs from 5pm to 9pm on Friday 24th July and from 11am to 9pm on Saturday.
