Epic turn out for North West Festival
Thousands of people flocked to Port Hedland's the North West Festival on the weekend (22nd to 24th August) to see a stellar line up of local and international artists mixed with urban art, upcycling, local art and craft treasures and local food delicacies on show.
Port Hedland Mayor Kelly Howlett said the town was proud to host the North West Festival for the third year and extend its format to three days, explaining "we were thrilled that 6,000 people attended the festival over the three days.
"This is up 50% on last year’s attendance.
“It was a fantastic weekend of music, arts and culture which we celebrated in our unique and world-class setting - the festival vibe quickly spread throughout town with musicians and visitors experiencing a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
“It was wonderful to see many visitors to the town enjoying the beautiful weather, high quality performers and Hedland hospitality.
“There was certainly a lot on offer from international headliners The Dandy Warhols to local Port Hedland musician and battle of the bands winner Hawk Brooklyn to national songstress Missy Higgins.
“I am sure people will agree the eclectic mix of music and events across the three days - from the energetic performances on the big stage, to the Fringe markets, to the chilled-out sundowner - ensuring there really was something for everyone.
“A range of community projects ran in conjunction with the festival, including Fringe Markets in West End on Saturday morning, youth mentoring and the amazing Larry the Lizard art piece constructed by HARTZ which collected cans for recycling at the festival.
“I would like to thank our generous funding partners, festival supporters and Sunset Events for a great festival.
"We are proud to see our vision of an annual music of an international standard unfolding and look forward to what next year holds.”
