SOPA assumes NSW Sports Centre Trust responsibilities
Following the NSW Government's repeal of the State Sports Centre Trust Act, the Sydney Olympic Park Authority (SOPA) has taken responsibility for the management of the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre, Hockey Centre and Sports Halls.
This marks the end of 25 years of the State Sports Centre Trust, although as Trust Director Peter Ross explains "it is certainly not the end of the venues, which I expect to thrive under the new arrangements."
Opened in 1984, the NSW State Sports Centre hosted the table tennis and taekwondo events for the 2000 Summer Olympics. The adjacent State Hockey Centre is a multi-use facility features two synthetic international standard hockey fields. The main arena, built in 1998 to host matches for the 2000 Summer Olympics has a capacity of 8,000 people, with seating for 4,000.
