Singapore Anytime Fitness gym ordered to close after link to potential Omicron cluster

The Anytime Fitness gym at Singapore’s Bukit Timah Shopping Centre linked to a potential Omicron cluster has been ordered to close for 10 days after authorities found that it did not ensure that patrons adhered to safe management measures.

In a statement released yesterday (23rd December), Sport Singapore (SportSG) said the gym outlet has also been issued with a notice of composition. It had been ordered to close for 10 days from Wednesday.

SportSG went on to explain that its enforcement officers “have been conducting regular checks on sport and fitness facilities as part of enforcement work, and will continue to do so”.

In its statement, the statutory board, which operates under Singapore’s Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, also urged all sports and fitness operators, and patrons, to "remain vigilant and adhere strictly" to safe management measures for COVID-19.

Stressing that enforcement action will be taken against businesses or individuals who fail to comply with the measures, the statement continued “SportSG will continue to work closely with the sport and fitness industry to bring sport and physical activity or exercise back in a safe and responsible manner.”

Earlier this week, Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) announced that two of three COVID-19 cases linked to the gym cluster had tested preliminarily positive for the Omicron variant. The test result of the third case was pending.
