Sport Singapore backs $100 per person incentive for residents to sign up for activity programs
Sport Singapore has announced that Singaporeans and permanent residents will each receive $100 to sign up for sports program and to use aquatic, recreation and fitness facilities at ActiveSG centres across the island nation.
Sport Singapore is backing the ActiveSG initiative that encourages Singaporeans to adopt an active lifestyle.
Making the funding announcement, Singapore’s acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong advised those who sign up for ActiveSG membership will receive incentives including 100 ActiveSG dollars.
Acting Minister Wong explained “we will credit all ActiveSG members with ActiveSG $100 to help kick-start their fitness routine.
“(As a result) I hope that Singaporeans will come onboard to embrace this movement and share this with their family and friends too so that we can all get active and live better through sport.
“Singaporeans from all walks of life, regardless of age, skill level, or physical ability can lead an active lifestyle through sports. They can come together to learn, train, compete in a range of sports.”
Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth Deputy Secretary (Community, Youth and Sports)
Hugh Lim added “I think it is quite a bold move by SportSG to actually open up all its facilities, to make activities and programmes available. I think it will bring Singaporeans to a new level in sporting activity but I think more importantly, I think it will help to connect Singaporeans.”
Among those praising the initiative, national basketballer Chase Tan stated “I can use the 100 dollars to sign up for a gym membership, since I frequent the gym on a regular basis.”
ActiveSG membership is valid for life and it is open to all Singaporeans and permanent residents. Membership is free.
Rebranded from the ‘Super Sports Club’ concept under Vision 2030, the long-term blueprint for sports in Singapore, ActiveSG aims to create a sporting ecosystem that provides innovative and experiential sports-related program at facilities across Singapore.
Registered ActiveSG members will enjoy benefits, including priority booking of facilities and complimentary trial classes which can be done through the Active SG membership management system (MMS). Members can also use the MMS as a network to form interest groups, signing up for social events, forming sports leagues and zonal affiliation for members.
Over the next few weeks, Sport Singapore will also be holding several open houses at various ActiveSG Centres island-wide, to facilitate registrations of the ActiveSG membership.
Since being launched on Saturday (26th April) 30,000 people have activated their membership.
