Rides revealed as Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi construction moves forward
On target to open in the (northern hemisphere) summer of 2018, Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi has unveiled a selection of the rides and attractions planned for the US$1 billion indoor theme park.
Sited on Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island near Ferrari World, the 153,000 metre² theme park will offer a total of 29 rides, attractions and live entertainment when it opens in the middle of the year.
Developed by local construction company Miral, the indoor theme park will feature six different lands, all inspired by stories and characters from DC and Warner Bros world.
When visitors first walk in, they'll find Warner Bros Plaza, inspired by the golden age of Hollywood. From there, they can go to one of the six zones, including Metropolis, Gotham City, Cartoon Junction, Bedrock and Dynamite Gulch.
The fictional city of Metropolis, best known for being the home of Superman, will also feature other Justice League characters, including Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Green Latern, Cyborg and The Flash.
Metropolis’ newspaper The Daily Planet will be home to the Superman 360: Battle for Metropolis ride.
Thrill enthusiasts can also try out Justice League: Warworld Attacks - a dark ride with immersive media and special effects that will involve a lot of darting and swooping, and Green Lantern: Galactic Odyssey, a 4D ‘flying theatre’ experience that takes riders to different planets using special effects that will stimulate multiple senses.
There will also be a Teen Titans Training Academy play area with a zip line and other obstacle courses.
Dining options in this zone will include Ace O’ Clubs, Bibbo Bibbowski’s for fast food, or Park Ridge Market, a grab-and-go café.
Another area of Warner Bros World is Cartoon Junction, which will star classic cartoon characters, including Tom and Jerry, Scooby-Doo, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Tweety, Sylvester, Pepe Le Pew, Elmer Fudd and more. The area features nine family-friendly rides and attractions including a haunted dark ride that is 'trackless' called Scooby-Doo The Museum of Mysteries.
Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of Miral, the developer of Yas Island, recently advised “we are approaching another major milestone for Yas Island, as the development of Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi nears completion.
“Building on Yas Island’s strong position in the market and maintaining its positive momentum, the park’s opening will further enrich our tourism offering driving visitors from across the world and establishing Abu Dhabi as a leisure and cultural destination of distinction”.
Miral has worked with Warner Bros Consumer Products and DC Entertainment to develop the park. It will complement Miral’s Yas Island destination portfolio, which includes Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, Yas Waterworld, CLYMB and SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, which is also under construction.
Construction of Warner Bros World has engaged 5,500 specialist engineers, workers and craftsmen.
