Elite surfing competition secured for Phillip Island

Visit Victoria has helped secure the Phillip Island Pro – being held at Cape Woolamai on the Bass Coast, Victoria from 17th to 22nd March 2025.

The event will be co-sanctioned between the Australia / Oceania and Asia regions, meaning it is set to attract competitors from over 10 countries in the region, all hoping to book a spot on the 2025 Challenger Series, the ultimate battleground for surfers vying to qualify for the elite Championship Tour (CT) in 2026.

The event will also include the 2025 Australia/Oceania Pro Junior series, with more than 100 of the region’s best 20-and-under talent competing in the Phillip Island Pro Junior during the same week.

It adds to other major surfing events secured by the Victorian Government, such as the recently announced Longboard Classic and the annual Rip Curl Pro at Bells over Easter – which showcases the world’s best shortboard surfers and has also been secured until at least 2028.

Support for the events attracts thousands of visitors to regional Victoria’s and showcases some of the state’s world-class surf breaks to a global audience.

World Surf League APAC President Andrew Stark noted “Victoria now plays host to four WSL events annually – from events on the Qualifying Series and Pro Junior series, to the World Longboard Tour and the Championship Tour with the historic Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach.

“Phillip Island is an incredible area for surf and has a rich history of hosting competitions right up to the elite level, so it’s a great location to decide the regional representatives for the WSL Challenger Series in 2025.

"WSL would like to sincerely thank the Victorian Government for their valued support of this event and their commitment to professional surfing throughout the state of Victoria. With the new WSL Phillip Island Pro Qualifying Series and Pro Junior event, Victoria now plays host to 4 WSL events annually, including events on the WSL Longboard Tour, and the Championship Tour with the historic Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach."

The Australia / Oceania region offers Challenger Series spots for seven men and four women, and five men and three women for the Asia region. The Phillip Island Pro will play as one of the most important events of the season for competitors and one of the most exciting for fans.
