Refurbishment of Coolum Aquatic Centre’s 25 metre pool now complete

New tiles and lane reconfigurations are just some of the benefits for patrons of Sunshine Coast Council’s newly refurbished 25 metre pool at Coolum Aquatic Centre.

Advising that the refurbishment works are now complete as part of Council’s ongoing commitment to providing quality community recreation venues, Sunshine Coast Councillor Stephen Robinson stated “I would like to thank patrons for their patience during the refurbishment which included the removal of the existing coating on the pool shell, as well as reconfiguring the pool to include an additional lane.

“Unfortunately the works were delayed when the pool was drained for the retiling works and a series of leaks were identified within the pool shell.

“These required investigation, appropriate waterproofing and repair.

“At times throughout the project works, these leaks were worsened by tidal water ingress given the pool’s proximity to the coastal environment.

“As Coolum Aquatic Centre is an important community facility council needed to ensure the project was delivered to the manufacturer’s specifications, including adherence to the recommended cure times.

“We also took the opportunity of replacing the resealing and expansion joints within the pool shell which will improve the life span of this aquatic centre.”

Councillor Robinson also announced that local operator Swim Fit had recently been awarded another 10-year lease as ongoing managers of the site, advising “Swim Fit have become part of the community with many patrons speaking highly of their professional management of this popular aquatic centre.”

Coolum Aquatic Centre Manager Nikolai Knudsen said Swim Fit was extremely proud to continue the management of the centre.

Knudsen added “Swim Fit is an integral part of the Coolum community and we look forward to building on this relationship over the next 10 years.

“Despite the delays encountered during the project, I would like to thank council for the recent improvements of the 25m pool for all the community to enjoy.

“We are also very excited about the upcoming splash park which Swim Fit are expecting will be completed within the next 12 months and will create a fantastic environment for young families.”
