Redevelopment secured for Roxy Community Theatre

Leeton Shire Council, located in the Riverina region of New South Wales, has announced that their Growing Regions Round 2 application submitted in late 2024 has been successful and will see $800,000 contributed by the Federal Government towards Stage 2 of the Roxy Community Theatre Redevelopment Masterplan.

Upon completion, Stage 2 is set to deliver a multi-purpose theatrette, function kitchen and theatre management office, in the building adjacent to the refurbished Roxy auditorium, in turn increasing the venue's capacity and flexibility.

Council will match the Federal Government’s contribution with $800,000 from existing, pre-approved Roxy funds with the total amount to fully realise Stage 2 estimated at $1.6 million.

Leeton Shire Council Deputy Mayor and Portfolio Lead for Arts and Culture, Michael Kidd, said Council is delighted with the news and will aim to get things underway as soon as it is possible. He thanked the Commonwealth for their investment.

Deputy Mayor Kidd advised “once contracts are exchanged, we will aim to have trades back on site as soon as possible to complete the full vision for the redevelopment.

“While some disruptions are likely, Council will be able to complete the Stage 2 build without interfering with the Roxy operations in the auditorium given that most of the remaining works are situated in the adjacent building.”

In making the announcement, Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, Catherine King noted “Quality infrastructure in regional areas is invaluable and this funding will build and upgrade key facilities that can be enjoyed by communities for years to come.”

Council will keep the community abreast of the project through future media releases and virtual tours once construction has re-commenced.
