Griffith Regional Theatre spotlights upcoming Grass Roots Open Mic Competition
With the highly anticipated Grass Roots Open Mic Competition being held on 4th August, local musicians of all ages are being urged to register and start preparing their best material.
Grass Roots is presented by Griffith Regional Theatre and ARTFARM
Now in its milestone fifth year, the competition has opened its doors to musicians of all ages, expanding beyond its previous under-30s restriction. This inclusive change celebrates and showcases the diverse musical talents within the community.
Grass Roots Open Mic now features two distinct sections: Under 21s and Opens, providing a platform for young emerging artists as well as seasoned performers. Participants will compete for six prizes in three categories: Best Original Song, Judge's Choice, and for the first time People's Choice for best performance.
Griffith Regional Theatre Manager, Marg Andreazza is thrilled that the competition is now open to all ages and advises "Grass Roots has always been about discovering and nurturing local talent, and this change allows us to embrace a broader range of musicians. We can't wait to see the amazing performances and original songs our community has to offer.
"We're also delighted to introduce a people's Choice award – voted by the audience, so we encourage people to come along to support their family & friends.”
Grass Roots has provided many talented young musicians from across the region with the opportunity to gain experience and exposure, with some going on to pursue professional music careers.
The competition will be judged by Grass Roots founder and local musician Ben Ceccato, along with ARTFARM committee members Bonnie Owen and Ken Dachi, himself a local musician and DJ.
Music enthusiasts and supporters are encouraged to attend as audience members and witness the exceptional talent on display. Tickets for the Grass Roots Open Mic competition are $10 and available from the Box Office, by calling 6962 8444, or visiting www.griffithregionaltheatre.com.au
The revamped contest will be held at Griffith Regional Theatre on Sunday, 4th August 2024 at 2pm. Musicians interested in participating must register by Monday, 29th July 2024. Registration is available online
