Recognising life changers in New Zealand’s fitness industry

The Exercise Association of New Zealand (ExerciseNZ) has received a record number of nominations for the New Zealand Fitness Industry Awards already this year.

The vast majority of the nominations have come from clients of REPs Registered trainers which shows how much of a part REPs Registered trainers (and facilities) play in the health and wellbeing of New Zealanders every day.

The New Zealand Fitness Awards are open for trainers, clubs, education providers and anyone involved in the exercise fitness industry to enter and be recognised for the work they do. Exercisers can also nominate those who they think are worthy of the recognition.

The New Zealand Fitness Awards have been running annually since 2005 and recognise excellence in exercise professionals and facilities, as well as awards for community contribution and support. It’s a chance for clubs and individuals who positively contribute to the health and wellbeing of New Zealander to get recognition from their peers for their effort. Judges have recently commented that awards winners are “true life changers of the New Zealand Exercise Industry.”

Every year the country’s best trainers and clubs enter the New Zealand Fitness Awards, with finalists having to go through some robust verification criteria in order to be eligible to win an award.

This year brings in some exciting changes to the Awards including a Live Assessment on Friday 21st November for entrants of the Personal Trainer, Up and Coming Personal Trainer, Gym Instructor, Small Group Trainer and Up and Coming Student of the Year categories. An international group of world leaders in the fitness industry will make up the judging panel to make the final decisions.

Past category winners have included internationally recognised Christchurch trainers Jean Scott and Cate Grace and Wellington’s Mish McCormack who travelled to London in 2013 as part of the ‘Life Fitness Personal Trainers to Watch’ competition, making it to the top ten out of 1,500 of the top personal trainers from all over the world.

To enter the majority of categories, entrants must be registered with the NZ Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) as REPs is recognised internationally as THE standard for exercise professionals and facilities in New Zealand to ensure sate and effective exercise advice.

The awards evening, and live assessment, are to be held on 22nd November in Auckland, the same weekend as the annual FitEx exercise industry conference, making it one of the most inspiring and exciting weekends on the fitness calendar.

There are now just weeks to submit entries, before the closing date of 30th June 2014.

ExerciseNZ President Richard Beddie explains “if you are eligible, enter the awards; if not, nominate someone who is.

“And if you are involved in New Zealand’s Exercise Industry, be part of the excitement by attending the Awards Ceremony.”
