Queenslanders share feedback for healthier, active future ahead of Brisbane 2032
Queenslanders have shared their ideas and feedback to shape a landmark sport strategy to deliver a healthier, more active Queensland and a lasting legacy from Brisbane 2032.
Queenslanders’ input will help define the state’s sporting legacy as part of the consultation on the Discussion Paper, ‘What Does 2032 Mean for You?’.
Over a five-week consultation period, 1,921 survey responses and 93 written submissions were received, alongside community and stakeholder forums held across the state — from the Gold Coast to Cairns and out west to Roma and Emerald. The consultation engaged a diverse range of voices, including those who play, officiate, or coordinate sport, and community members passionate about seeing their local areas thrive.
This valuable input will guide the creation of a landmark new Sport Strategy designed to deliver a healthier, more active Queensland and ensure a legacy from hosting the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The consultation process represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to establish a vibrant sports culture that benefits Queenslanders of all abilities, ages and postcodes.
The Queensland sport, active recreation and fitness industry already makes a significant contribution to the state’s economy, generating $8.2 billion annually, supporting around 48,000 jobs, and relying on the efforts of more than 490,000 volunteers.
QLD Minister for Sport and Racing and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tim Mander thanked everyone who contributed to the consultation process noting “This has been an incredible opportunity to hear directly from Queenslanders about their vision and bold ideas for sport in our state.
“Sport is at the heart of Queensland communities. It improves our physical and mental health, strengthens our sense of belonging, and contributes significantly to our economy.
“With the 2032 Games on the horizon, we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to create a vibrant sports culture that benefits all Queenslanders.
“I want to thank everyone who took the time to share their thoughts through surveys, submissions, or attending one of the 10 community forums. Your input will help shape a strategy that ensures sport is accessible, inclusive, and thriving across the state.”
The new Sport Strategy, shaped by the feedback gathered, is set to be released later this year. It will outline how Queensland can grow participation in sport and recreation, improve health outcomes, and create long-term economic and social benefits for communities across the state.
