QPAC outsources hosting to Macquarie

The Queensland Performing Arts Centre will use virtualisation to handle peaks in demand on its Qtix ticketing service.

The performing arts centre has signed a three-year managed services deal with Macquarie Hosting for "multiple virtual and dedicated VMware hosts".

Previously, the arts centre hosted its own site.

QPAC said it had outsourced hosting of its website, including Qtix, to support growth in the ticketing business and support plans to integrate travel, entertainment and accommodation booking features with its website.

The contract was awarded after a competitive tender process. The system will be hosted in Macquarie's Intellicentre facility in Sydney.

SSL load-balancing will, according to a statement from Macquarie, "ensure QPAC can manage growing peaks in traffic to its ticketing site while tape back-up and redundant firewalls offer added security and redundancy."

The deal also includes a disaster recovery solution to enable QPAC to "guarantee its ticket sales" and attract and retain more international talent to perform at the centre as a result, the hoster said.
