QPAC Theatres Reopen
The completion of a $34.7 million refurbishment of the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) has further cemented its reputation as one of Australia's best venues.
QPAC Director John Kotzas said the QPAC upgrade gives all visitors access to arts and cultural events in a state-of-the-art environment that maximises use of new technology.
Kotzas explains "the newly-refurbished Concert Hall opened on 11th March and the Lyric Theatre opens tomorrow (19th March) with the dazzling premiere of the new Australian production of Chicago.
"This will be followed in June by an exclusive Brisbane-only season of the Paris Opera Ballet.
"New seating, additional wheelchair locations, new stages, upgraded lighting, acoustics and design makes visiting QPAC an unrivalled experience.
"Disability access has been significantly improved and the venue now offers more seating choices for people in wheelchairs.
"New bars in QPAC's foyers have been designed to be accessible to all patrons, the box office and cloak room have also been revamped and a new glass lift takes patrons from the ground floor entrance to balcony level."
Kotzas said major productions would be a mainstay of the venue, adding "with a program of high-profile productions, robust ticket sales and strong staff recruitment, QPAC is set to further build on its success.
"In total, we are recruiting just over 100 new staff with one quarter of these new positions created for QPAC's new food and beverage outlets."
