Tokyo Olympic hopefuls join volunteers at Sydney Olympic Park for Clean Up Australia Day

Tokyo Olympic hopefuls Mackenzie Little (Athletics) and Declan Stacey (Diving) today joined volunteers at Sydney Olympic Park for Clean Up Australia Day.

Little and Stacey worked with Park Rangers from Sydney Olympic Park and the War on Waste - Newington and Wentworth Point community to clean up the Haslam Creek Coastal Saltmarsh, which is listed as an endangered ecological community in NSW, and help promote the importance of protecting the Australian environment.

Together they joined 15 athletes and coaches from seven different sports who donated their time to participate in Clean Up Australia Day events across New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, Western Australia and the ACT, or will support the campaign online. They will also join in with the hundreds of thousands of volunteers who step up and take positive action for the environment.

The initiative is supported by the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) as part of the AIS Community Events Program, which is now in its second year, that aims to provide opportunities for athletes to engage with and contribute back to the community.
