Host nations open ticket sales for 2023 Basketball World Cup

The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has today opened ticket sales for the 2023 Basketball World Cup in host nations Japan, the Philippines and Indonesia.

With second window of qualifiers for the tournament now complete, a range of packages for the Group Phase of next year’s tournament are now available to buy online in the host nations are staging the World Cup from 25th August to 10th September next year.

Packages include a ‘Follow My Team’ pass for the Philippines and Japan, which covers the five games of the already-qualified co-hosts across the Group Phase.

Those that had registered for the ‘Win For All’ team have already had the chance to buy tickets in the three host countries, starting from 27th February.

The ‘Follow My Team’ Pass sold out in just over an hour in Japan.

Indonesia has yet to qualify for the 2023 World Cup, needing a top-eight finish in the upcoming FIBA Asia Cup in July. Indonesian fans can still secure a ‘Venue Pass’ which would cover all 12 games of the Group Phase in Jakarta.

Announcing the ticketing launch, FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Board Chairman, Richard Carrion stated “we are thrilled to reach this important milestone on the journey to our flagship event. This ticket launch is a great moment for fans wanting to attend the games in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia.

“As basketball continues to rise in popularity across the globe, all of us are looking forward to having sell-out crowds come August 2023.”

Group Phase games will be played at the Okinawa Arena on the southern Japanese island of Okinawa, Jakarta Arena in the Indonesian capital and at Araneta Coliseum and Mall of Asia Arena the Philippines capital of Manila.

The Final Stage will be played at Philippine Arena in Manila - the largest indoor arena in the world with a capacity of 55,000.

Manuel V. Pangilinan, FIBA Central Board member and SBP Chairman emeritus, noted “the giants of basketball are coming to our homecourt. Let us support our very own Gilas Pilipinas as they stand tall against the world’s best teams. Yuko Mitsuya, FIBA Central Board member and president of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Organising Committee in Japan, advised “we are starting to feel the excitement from the fans here in Japan. We hope that basketball fans around the world will take the opportunity to visit the beautiful islands of Okinawa and be part of this prestigious event.”

Erick Thohir, International Olympic Committee (IOC) member and FIBA Central Board member from Indonesia, added “we are really looking forward to seeing some extraordinary on-court action from the world’s best teams in next year’s FIBA Basketball World Cup.

“Indonesian basketball fans enthusiastically welcome the Venue Pass tickets and look forward to welcoming more fans from across the globe to Jakarta next year.”
