Poseidon's Lair opens at Christchurch's QEII Park
Christchurch City Council has opened a new AquaPlay structure at its QEII aquatic and sport centre.
The Poseidon's Lair structure replaces the ancient Greek sailing ship feature which was removed back in June of this year. In its place in the children's Lagoon area of the leisure pool sits the new waterplay structure from WhiteWater West.
As Michael Aitken, Christchurch City Council's General Manager Community Services, explains, the Canadian company are the largest and most experienced builder of water parks and aquatic attractions in the world, adding "the main focal point of this new structure is Poseidon himself, the God of the sea.
"The whole water structure is like nothing else found in New Zealand - it's incredible. With three slides, tipping buckets, showers and water canons, water spouts and eye-catching graphics, Poseidon's Lair is an aquatic jungle gym for children."
While Poseidon's Lair will appeal mainly to young children, adults and older children can also enjoy the many other aquatic facilities at QEII, Aitken adding "with wave pools, a lazy river, bubbles pools, dive boards and towers, water jets, waterslides and waterfalls, not to mention the 25 and 50 metre swimming pools and sauna, steam and spa, it's no surprise that we are Australasia's largest aquatic facility."
WhiteWater West Australia have also won the tender to supply a AquaPlay feature with tipping bucket for the Fairfield City Council at its Fairfield Leisure Centre.
The project, under consideration by Fairfield City Council over the past two years, is for an interactive play structure with two barrel slides and a double open slide set over three levels. It will also offer bubble jets through the floor, various toys and a tipping bucket.
