Port Hedland Leisure marks five years of operations

The Town of Port Hedland has today marked the five year anniversary of the launch of the Port Hedland Leisure brand and 2019 commencement of the in-house management of its aquatic and  recreation facilities.

On social media, Cheye Hill, the Town of Port Hedland’s Manager - Recreation and Leisure Services set out the achievements of Port Hedland Leisure, citing the following achievements.

  • 200% rise in overall income

  • 300% increase in overall attendance.

  • 250% growth in Swim School

  • 100% greater facility utilisation over the previous three years.

  • An Average Net Promoter Score of +50 (up from 23 four years ago)

  • Establishing strategic partnerships with supporting agencies such as Royal Life Saving WA and the Western Australian Department of Sport and Recreation

  • The addition of the sport and recreation activities into the brands management in 2022

  • The creation of new community events including ‘Ship 2 Shore’, the premier fun run in the Pilbara

  • Strong reviews of our leisure facilities across google and other platforms

  • Completion of the Aquatic Masterplan and Strategy.

Hill also highlighted the multiple major Awards presented to Port Hedland Leisure, including

  • 2022 Parks and Leisure WA Awards of Excellence for Best Rural Industry Contribution

  • 2023 AUSactive WA Community Initiative Award 2023 SALT Program

  • 2023 Royal Life Saving / LIWA Community Initiative of the Year Aquatic Free Entry Program.

Hill went on to state “most importantly, we've built an engaged, motivated and resilient team who in-spite of some of the challenges that come with being in a remote location, maintain a consistently positive and can-do attitude and a sense of teamwork and pride which in-turn results in satisfied patrons and an engaged broader community and am eternally thankful for all of their hard work, both our current team and those who served over the past five years.”
