Paris coup for MONA exhibition

A Hobart art exhibition with items from the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG) and MONA will travel to Paris.

The Theatre of the World exhibition at MONA combines hundreds of objects from the two museums.

More than 350,000 people have seen the exhibition in Hobart over the past nine months.

It will now be packed into containers and shipped to Paris and shown at the privately-owned La Maison Rouge gallery in October.

Tasmanian Premier Lara Giddings says the show will increase recognition of Tasmania internationally, stating "this is really exciting in terms of the creativity and support that the support that the Tasmanian art sector is getting globally."

TMAG Director Bill Bleathman he expects the exhibition will make an impact on an international audience, adding "hopefully they will immerse themselves in it but want to come to Tasmania, that would be a great outcome for it.

"But if you think about it we're probably the last museum north of Antarctica - MONA and TMAG - and our objects are smack bang in the middle of Paris for a couple of months. It's a fantastic result."
