Palmerston Water Park Design Process Begins

Northern Territory Minister for Sport and Recreation Karl Hampton has called for tenders for the design of stage one of the Palmerston Water Park.
Minister Hampton explained âin April this year the Northern Territory Government announced that the water park would be located on the site of the current skate park near the city centre (now) I am pleased to announce the opening of tenders for the design of this exciting facility.
âPalmerston is one of Australiaâs fastest growing cities and the waterpark will include waterslides, wet play areas and BBQ facilities for this young and vibrant community.?
A 2008 election commitment, the scope of work for the future Palmerston Water Park includes a six-line racer water slide; wet play area; kiosk; offices for lifeguards, toilets and change rooms; car parking; open grassed play area with BBQs; shaded areas and extensions to the existing skate park.
Minister Hampton added âTerritorians love the water and the Government is committed to providing free recreational fun for families in Palmerston and the surrounding rural areas.
âOne of the goals of Territory 2030 is to provide access to a wide range of facilities and activities that enhance the Territory lifestyle.
âSoon the kids and young families of Palmerston will be able to swim, splash, snack and slide at this magnificent free facility.?
Design works are scheduled to commence in November 2010 with construction to take place mid-late 2011.
Tenders close on 29th September 2010.
