Onehunga War Memorial Pool stages Dogs Day Out swimming event

Last weekend saw the YMCA-managed Onehunga War Memorial Pool stage its second Dogs Day Out swimming event at which dogs are allowed to swim in the facility’s outdoor pool before its season closure.

A growing trend at seasonal aquatic centres in New Zealand, the fun day out allows responsible owners to let their dogs loose in the pools before they are drained for the winter.

With most dogs loving the water, the event is a fun way to mark the end of the outdoor swimming season by extending pool access to ‘man’s best friend’.

Numerous pictures posted on the Onehunga War Memorial Pool show dogs enjoying their aquatic experience.

At this time Australasian Leisure Management has not been able to confirm if dogs will be allowed access to the facility's gym during the winter months or if canine learn-to-swim lessons are being planned.
