NSW regional tourism board enters administration

The Inland NSW Regional Tourism Organisation has collapsed into voluntary administration.

The news comes despite the tourism body being $122,835 in surplus from 2015. However, it stated to its members that it called in administrators because it was not able to secure enough funding for this year.

Inland NSW told its members last Friday it had decided to call in administrators because it was not able to secure enough funding, according to the ABC.

News of the group’s voluntary administration has shocked small business owners in NSW, with many nervous about what the developments mean for their business.

Steve Sliwka, a pub-owner from Broken Hill, told the ABC he was “shocked” to learn of the collapse given he paid money to the tourism body about two weeks ago.

Sliwka stated "there was no communication that anything was going bad, or any type of that stuff."

Created from the amalgamation of the former New England North West Tourism, Outback Tourism, seven Councils from the Central Tourism region and Capital Country Tourism, the body represented local government areas, tourism associations and individual operators.

Destination NSW says it will meet with the appointed administrator and work with local operators and stakeholders to support the region.
