NRL’s Wests Tigers settle on 15-year venues strategy with $50 million Campbelltown Sports Stadium upgrade agreed
Wests Tigers have secured a landmark 15-year stadium strategy that will see the club’s NRL and NRLW fixtures played at both Leichhardt Oval and Campbelltown Sports Stadium, backed by more than $100 million in government and council funding.
The announcement follows confirmation of a $50 million redevelopment of Campbelltown Stadium, alongside the previously announced $50 million upgrade of Leichhardt Oval.
The Campbelltown project, funded through a realignment of $40 million in existing Federal and NSW Government allocations with an additional $10 million from Campbelltown City Council, will deliver a new northern grandstand featuring corporate boxes, general seating and upgraded player facilities. At the southern end, near the Leagues Club, a smaller high-performance facility will be built with gymnasium space, offices, and corporate hospitality.
The redevelopment will lift stadium capacity to 20,000, including 1,000 corporate seats, ensuring the venue is better aligned with the demands of the modern game.
Describing the outcome as a win for both fans and the region, Campbelltown Mayor, Darcy Lound explained “we’ve worked closely with the Tigers to realign the original plans into a more functional, game-day ready venue that delivers what the club needs today.
“Our city has a storied history in rugby league and a passionate Wests Tigers fanbase. This ensures the future of the game in our region and builds pathways for future stars."
The stadium investment forms part of a twin-venue strategy, with Leichhardt Oval to undergo a $50 million redevelopment supported by the NSW and Federal Governments in partnership with Inner West Council.
Construction there is scheduled to commence following the 2026 NRL season.
Wests Tigers Chairman Barry O’Farrell hailed the strategy as transformational, acknowledging the support of all levels of government, noting “Leichhardt Oval and Campbelltown Sports Stadium are significant to the rich history of the Wests Tigers, our foundation clubs and our Members.
“This is a pivotal moment for the club."
Advising that that the approach was central to the joint venture’s financial sustainability and long-term vision, Wests Tigers Chief Executive, Shane Richardson added “we’ve secured funding, confirmed our venues, and created certainty for our Members and supporters. It lays the platform for an exciting period both on and off the field.”
The strategy not only secures two traditional homes for the club but also underpins ongoing investment in development pathways and community engagement programs across both Inner West and South West Sydney.
With formal agreements being finalised, the Wests Tigers, Inner West Council and Campbelltown City Council will continue to collaborate on commercial terms, fixture allocation and venue management during the construction phase.
