City of Bayswater Community Recreation Plan guides provision of facilities

The City of Bayswater has approved a Community Recreation Plan that will guide the provision of sport and recreational facilities and infrastructure across the City over the next 10 years including the installation of outdoor exercise equipment.

The new Community Recreation Plan will respond to the changing recreational needs of the community.

The Community Recreation Plan was developed in consultation with residents, sporting and community groups. It balances the need for community recreation, whether that be walking dogs in a local park, using outdoor exercise equipment or cycling, with organised sport and recreational activities.

The Plan acknowledges the need for City’s infrastructure to be fit-for-purpose and respond to the changing recreational needs of the community. This includes the provision of changerooms to better accommodate female participation across a variety of sports and activities.

This year, the City will upgrade changerooms at Noranda Sporting Complex and liaise with clubs at Upper Hillcrest Reserve to scope facility upgrades.

The Community Recreation Plan outlines a number of short, medium and long term actions including the provision of accessible and inclusive changerooms, the development of a Skate and BMX Strategy, the promotion of outdoor exercise equipment across the City and the development of various facility development plans.

The City has responded to community feedback and is now working more closely with local sporting clubs and community groups.

The Community Recreation Plan is part of the City’s commitment to improve physical activity and participation in sport and recreation for community health and wellbeing.
