NPL Victoria's Melbourne Knights chart fitness hub development

The Melbourne Knights of the National Premier Leagues Victoria competition have shared how they have developed a new sports gym and elite fitness hub.

First transforming a space that used to be known as the ‘Batcave’ in 2013 into the Melbourne Knights Sports Gym the initial renaming marked a new era for the Knights.

Moving on 12 years, the space underwent a long-awaited facelift, taking it to a new level of excellence as a high-performance facility fully equipped to serve its community, offering a safe space for athletes with varying goals to refine their skills and build the level of fitness they desire.

Among those shaped by the gym’s commitment to fitness is Dante Karlusic, a popular figure within the Knights community. His countless hours of focused training, under the lights of the Melbourne Knights Sports Gym, have propelled him to make his professional debut in the Melbourne boxing scene.

Additionally, the gym has served as a vital training ground for Melbourne Knights players - who compete in the second tier of football in Australia - who rely on its facilities to reach their peak physical condition.

Speaking on the redevelopment, Knights Physiotherapist Kamal Tasbas offered that the Sports Gym’s redevelopments “have had a positive impact on our players’ rehabilitation programs.

“With a never-ending injury list, the new redevelopments are exactly what we needed. They’ve allowed for more targeted strength and conditioning exercises that have enhanced recovery, improved performance, and reduced injury recurrence.”

The gym is not just for existing athletes, serving as a community hub, where people of all ages, with different fitness goals can stay active and achieve their health targets.

The club advise “whether it’s a place to seek refuge from the cold on a winter’s training night, or a quick stop after work to get in some extra steps, joining the gym is a great way for both existing and new members of the club to begin their fitness journey.

“The Knights welcome all people through their doors, current members or not, and encourage everyone to sign up and be part of this thriving community.”
