New Zealand's Green Pavlova conference returns from 25th to 28th May

After New Zealand's 2020 Green Pavlova conference was cancelled due to COVID-19, Recreation Aotearoa will be staging its annual event for parks, recreation and open space professionals from 25th to 28th May.

Being held at Rotorua’s Energy Events Centre for delegates able to attend, Green Pavlova will also include the World Urban Parks Asia-Pacific Congress bringing together the Asia-Pacific parks and open spaces industry to learn new things and discuss best practice.

Introducing the event, Recreation Aotearoa advise “whilst our international colleagues won't be able to join us in person, we are hosting an international online conference on 27th May 2021, enabling everyone to participate in Green Pavlova 2021 (and) to learn new things and discuss best practice in an online environment.”

International speakers will also be addressing delegates throughout the conference.

Recreation Aotearoa explain that Green Pavlova is “the premier parks and open spaces conference in New Zealand, for organisations and individuals engaged in sports parks, playspaces and reserves.

“The conference earned its unusual name by having many layers and by being typically Kiwi - much like a pavlova, the famous Kiwi dessert!

Celebrating parks and green spaces around the world, with the hashtag #NatureNeverCloses, World Parks Week was developed out of World Parks Day, which was previously held in the final months of the year.

It is held to:

  • Communicate the critical importance of parks in a global context

  • Promote best practices by learning from other parks services

  • Encourage people to enjoy nature and appreciate the importance of green space

World Parks Week is a separate initiative to Australia and New Zealand's Parks Week which runs in March.
