Recreation Aotearoa highlights benefits of Get Outdoors Week

Recreation Aotearoa is promoting 'Get Outdoors Week', a national campaign that encourages Kiwis to get out and explore the great outdoors, as the perfect opportunity for local adventures and exploring the natural wonders that Aotearoa has to offer.

Led by Recreation Aotearoa in collaboration with New Zealand’s leading recreation, tourism and safety organisations and taking place from 14th to 22nd November, Get Outdoors Week presents opportunities for families to go on short bush walks, swim in the ocean or picnic in local parks.

Recreation Aotearoa Chief Executive, Andrew Leslie advises “if you’ve been thinking about getting the family off the couch and into adventure mode, then this is the week to make that happen. We’d love to see families sharing those adventures on social media, there are so many benefits to getting out and creating memories in the outdoors.”

Leslie adds “no matter the scale of your adventure, Get Outdoors Week is also about encouraging quality planning and preparation. It’s the ideal time to check your equipment and refresh some knowledge. We’ve got heaps of fantastic resources to help you do that easily and effectively.”

By simply getting outdoors and sharing your adventure on social media you’ll be part of the action - share your adventures on social media using #GOWeekNZ to win prizes.

Opportunities exist to take part in an organised Get Outdoors Week or partner event – many are already listed here with more events to be added as the week approaches. Or alternatively Recreation Aotearoa, also advise the possibility of hosting a Get Outdoors Week event.
