New ride at Perth's Adventure World a ‘swing on steroids’
Perth amusement park Adventure World has revealed details of its newest attraction – a giant swing ride similar to Dreamworld’s The Claw ride.
Code-named MI3, Gyro Swing ride from Swiss manufacturer Intamin will be launched in September when Adventure World commences its 2017/18 season.
Currently being assembled at the park’s Bibra Lake site, the new ride follows on from the park’s other recent Intamin attractions, MI1 (the Abyss) and MI2 (the Kraken).
Commenting on the new ride, recently-appointed Adventure World Chief Executive Andrew Sharry told PerthNow “everything about this ride is going to be giant.
“The 15-metre pendulum in the middle of the ride that swings up and down will take riders beyond horizontal, up to about 120 degrees.
“At the same time, the gondola that they’re harnessed into will rotate.”
While the new ride’s branding has yet to be unveiled, Sharry sees the ride as an essential component in the ongoing investment in Adventure World, adding “it's kind of like a rollercoaster - everyone's got a rollercoaster, you've got to have one so this is one of those rides.
“Any world class theme park has one, we needed to have one but instead of having something conventional, we've amped it up.”
The ride will be functionally identical to The Claw, although in the decade since its installation, Intamin have made numerous changes to the ride's design in subsequent installations around the world.
Unlike The Claw, which features relatively conventional, restrictive over-the-shoulder restraints, MI3 will feature Intamin's newer, open retraints that use only a simple lap bar to hold riders in.
Former Ardent Leisure executive Sharry took on Adventure World’s Chief Executive role earlier this year.
Former Chief Executive Mark Shaw has recently been appointed to the role of Chief Executive at Melbourne-based trampoline arena operator BOUNCE Inc.
