SGL to prepare sport and recreation strategy for Horsham Rural City Council
The SGL Consulting Group has been appointed by Horsham Rural City Council to prepare a Sport and Recreation Strategy, identifying priority projects for the Council for the period from 2013 to 2018 and to respond to changing community needs.
Through the Strategy the Council also aims to increase participation in sport and recreation activities for all members of the community.
In addition to reviewing existing facilities, programs and services the Strategy will review existing management and development plans for Council's committee of management and assess skills shortages in the volunteer base of sporting organisations and resourcing requirements for ongoing management in the longer term.
Centrally located in the Wimmera, next to the Grampians National Park and the famous Mount Arapiles, Horsham is located 300 kilometres north-west of Melbourne and 450 kilometres south-east of Adelaide.
With a population of over 20,000 people, Horsham is the retail, business and service centre of the Wimmera.
The SGL team will be led by Phillip Gray, assisted by Cam Opie and Rob Heinjus, SGL and Gray having first worked with the Rural City of Horsham in 1996 when they were commissioned to prepare the first post amalgamation Recreation and Sport Strategy.
In 2005, the company reviewed the 1996 Report and prepared an updated Strategy, and also prepared the Horsham Football Grounds Water Management Strategy.
