New record set in Broome’s virtual Beach to Bay 2022 swim

Broome locals dived into the Beach 2 Bay 2022 event, the first major swimming event of the year, hosted last weekend by the Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre.

21 participants took to the pool on Sunday morning for the 2022 Beach 2 Bay Virtual Swim, a 20km swim meant to mirror the distance from Cable Beach, around Gantheaume Point and to Town Beach.

Swimmers could choose to swim either 10 or 20km, individually, as a pair or as a team of four.

As reported by The Broome Advertiser, the family friendly event kicked off with a briefing at 6.45am and continued throughout the day with awards handed out to each person who entered.

This year, Toni’s Thunder, beat the record for teams of four in the 20km event in a time of 4 hours, 29 minutes and 28 seconds.

This was the first of three major events held by the Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre (BRAC) with the facility set to host the Dash & Splash duathlon run event on 6th May and the BRAC 2 Beach Fun Run, a 4km or 8km run from BRAC to the Broome Surf Club in June.
