New Port Pirie Aquatic and Leisure Centre opens
Port Pirie Regional Council and Belgravia Leisure have confirmed the opening of the new Port Pirie Aquatic and Leisure Centre, which started welcoming users as of last Monday (3rd December).
Part of the $25 million sport hub development at the South Australian town's swimming pool and Memorial Oval.
In addition to outdoor and indoor 25 metre pools, the facility inclkudes a splash park with a tipping bucket, water wheels and squirters, gymnastics and squash amenities, and a multi-function area suitable for hire for yoga, martial arts or dance.
Former premiership footballer Terry McGinnis has been appointed by Belgravia Leisure as Manager of the sport hub as well as the town's Crystal Brook Swimming Pool.
McGinnis began with Belgravia on 2nd October with his priority being to have the Crystal Brook facility operating and under the company’s management in time for the start of the swimming season on 1st November.
McGinnis told local media "we have a state-of-the-art facility and aim to get as many people to use it as possible from sport groups and the community.
“We will host the country swimming championships in January, the Port-Crows match in March, the Masters Games in April, cricket, baseball and soccer. There will be special events throughout the year.”
Belgravia Leisure will work in partnership with the Council to ensure that the precinct is promoted for major events as well as being available for private and community functions.
