New Playground installed at Wollongong Boat Harbour

A new children's play area has opened at Wollongong Boat Harbour.

Part of the Wollongong Blue Mile project, the playground features Moduplay Commercial Play Systems equipment that has been designed to reflect the heritage and historic values of the area. The area was once a working harbour that exported local coal to Sydney via steamships.

The playground design features a coal skip multi-rocker, railway tracks and rail car bumper as well as a Mine Gantry Crane slide platform.

The playground design also includes a pleasant sitting area formed by the shape of the bow of a boat and the playground is integrated into a sloping site with steps that allow for a terraced design.

The Wollongong Blue Mile project, developed in consultation with local residents, includes a range of foreshore improvements to the stretch of harbour between Stuart Park and the Wollongong Golf Club.

Wollongong City Council is building promenades, upgraded walkways and cycleways, park furniture, lighting and playgrounds.
