MCG introduces sports themed children’s program for the school holidays
The MCG is set to host a new type of event with the introduction of a children’s school holiday program this July.
The Melbourne Cricket Club have partnered with TeamKids (formerly Team Holiday) to offer a special sports themed program at the histoic venue from Monday 2nd to Friday 13th July (excluding weekends and Friday 6th July).
The program will see primary school aged children will be entertained all day with a jam-packed schedule of activities and offers, from behind the scenes experiences at the National Sports Museum and exclusive kick-to-kicks on the hallowed turf, to coaching clinics covering every sport from athletics and basketball to rugby and tennis.
MCC Chief Executive Stuart Fox said the club was excited to trial the new offering, and hoped that it would appeal to a lot of Victorian families looking to entertain children during their break.
Fox advised “there’s something magical about the MCG, and that extends beyond the energy of a match day. We’re pleased to open up the venue for a unique school holiday program, and we hope the sporting theme and location will capture the imagination of kids of all ages.
“We originally offered a much smaller version of the program just for our staff, but we had so many people saying that their friends or family would love to come along, it made sense to trial something the wider public could enjoy.”
Run by qualified teachers with industry leading child to carer ratios, TeamKids operates award-winning programs across the state, providing unforgettable experiences for more than 100,000 children each year.
TeamKids founder Sam Hoath added “we see the holidays as a unique time for children to really explore their world. This fact motivates us more than anything to try and find the most engaging experiences possible every school holidays.
“We are thrilled to be offering a school holiday program at an iconic destination like the MCG, and look forward to lots of fun and activity across the two weeks.”
