New Mandurah sporting fields to be shared by community and new school

Families living in the City of Mandurah will soon be able to benefit from multiple new sports fields, which will be constructed this year alongside the development of a new public secondary school in the suburb of Lakelands.

Set to to open with 600 students next year, and with capacity for 1,500 students by 2022, the new sporting fields will be built on land near the school - which is currently under construction - and will be shared by the City of Mandurah and students when the school opens in 2019.

The City of Mandurah will also provide funding for additional facilities for community members which will complement the recreational areas.

In addition to shared-use sports fields, the secondary school in Lakelands will have facilities for students with disability including a hydrotherapy pool; a sports hall and fitness centre; a technology learning area; 10 science laboratories; performing arts classrooms; and digital media facilities.

Commenting on the development, Western Australian Premier Mark McGowan stated “my Government is committed to delivering the highest standard of education, and the new Lakelands secondary school will be an exceptional choice for families in the rapidly growing north Mandurah area.

"We want all students to be excited about learning. Having a brand new school with outstanding facilities will give students the contemporary learning environment in which they can excel.

"By investing in local schools, we are ensuring that students have access to the best possible education, now and well into the future."
